USE YOUR VOICE TO HELP CREATE SAFER SCHOOLS! Advocating for change is all about using your voice to create impactful change, so the Texas School Safety Center is hosting a photovoice contest – Youth Voices: Preparing Today for a Safer Tomorrow. Photovoice is a process in which people use photos to capture aspects of their environment and experiences and share them with others. The pictures and captions written by each photographer can be used to shine a light on sensitive topics and create change. The Texas School Safety Center wants to hear from you about your experiences and opinions on how you can help create safer schools! CONTEST INFO The contest includes three prompts for each contestant to capture photos for: Prompt 1: What does a safe school look like to you? Prompt 2: What needs to be done to make your school safer? Prompt 3: If given all the resources needed to create a safe school environment, what would these resources look like and what would you do with them? Staff will review all submissions and identify the top 25 entries from each prompt to be featured in an exhibit at the 2024 Texas School Safety Conference in June. All photos and descriptions submitted will remain anonymous. Submissions selected for the exhibit will show first name, grade, city, and title of artwork. CONTEST RULES Contestants must be in 6th - 12th grade. Contestants must submit a signed copy of the Parent/Guardian Consent Form to enter the contest. Photos submitted without consent will be automatically disqualified. Only 1 photo and description per entry is allowed. You can submit an entry for one or all three prompts. The deadline to submit an entry is Wednesday, May 15, 2024. For more information please visit. https://txssc.txstate.edu/about/programs/ssa/photovoice-contest

Crisis recovery starts with the crisis, not after. Without a plan to reunite students and parents, we exacerbate the stress and potential trauma of the crisis itself . No district is immune to emergencies; fires, floods, tornadoes, blizzards, power outages, bomb threats, acts of violence... this is just a short list of events that could initiate a release and reunification event. We invite you to learn more about McAllen ISD adopted Standard Reunification Protocol by enrolling in the training provided by Texas School Safety center.
