Lights! Camera! Action! McAllen ISD students know how to put on a show.

Students from McAllen High, McAllen Memorial High and James “Nikki” Rowe High have been nominated for 26 awards heading toward the 8th annual Palm Awards ceremony in May.

The nominations were announced April 8. McAllen ISD also earned five Honorable Mentions.

Similar to Broadway’s Tony Awards, this event casts the spotlight on high school theater and choir students throughout the Rio Grande Valley. They are nominated in multiple categories of theater production under the umbrella of two broad divisions – Straight Play and Musical.

The winners will be announced on May 13 at the McAllen Performing Arts Center.

·         Best Ensemble

·         Best Performer in a Featured Role – Isabella Pagan

·         Best Actor in a Supporting Role – Jose Gutierrez

·         Best Actress in a Supporting Role – Taia Galloso & Eliana Quintanilla

·         Best Actor in a Leading Role – Diego Ordonez

·         Best Actress in a Leading Role: Ava Rodriguez

·         Best Production

 Musical: Mean Girls

·         Best Choreography

·         Best Ensemble (Honorable Mention)

·         Best Actress in a Supporting Role – Isabella Pagan

·         Best Production

Memorial High’s nominations include:

·         Best Technical Execution

·         Best Ensemble

·         Best Performer in a Featured Role – D’Zarei Mancha

·         Best Actor in a Supporting Role – Tomas Gonzalez

·         Best Actor in a Leading Role – Aiden Kaiser

·         Best Actress in a Leading Role – Luna Galvan (Honorable Mention)
